An adventure game enriched with RPG elements, developed by the Spanish studio Chibig. In Summer in Mara we play the role of an eleven-year-old who travels a picturesque archipelago and performs various tasks, while also cultivating the land and producing useful items.
Summer in Mara is an adventure game enriched with RPG elements, developed by the Chibig studio - an independent team from Spain, whose portfolio includes, among others, the genre-related game titled Deiland.
The main character of Summer in Mara is Koa - an eleven-year-old girl living on a picturesque island. When the heroine finds a letter left to her by her grandmother, she decides to travel the lands adjacent to her home, all in order to discover the secret behind the huge door on her own island. Moreover, over the course of her adventure, Koa has to face the representatives of the ominous Elit corporation, which obtains raw materials from the Mara ocean, without taking into the consequences of their actions.
In Summer in Mara the action was shown from the third person perspective (TPP). Over the course of the game, our primary tasks are: cultivating the land (and doing our best to harvest as much as possible), gaining valuable resources needed to produce more than a hundred and thirty useful items (such as an axe for felling trees, a hammer for building structures or a hoe, which is indispensable in agricultural work), and to repair and improve boats.
The latter make it possible to travel through the archipelago and meet more than twenty different NPCs with more than a hundred quests for our character. As Koa progresses, she gains new skills that will help her cope with crafting, commerce and the exploration of the world. The game is diversified by the presence of a daily cycle and changing weather conditions.
Summer in Mara has three-dimensional graphics, which, despite their simplicity, look pleasing to the eye; this is due to the fact that the whole game is kept in a colourful, cartoony style.

Game Ratings for Summer in Mara Video Game.
COGconnected: 65 / 100 by Ricky Knight
Summer in Mara was a game I wanted to love, but its core designs around crafting and questing left me wanting. It’s a shame, as I think it could’ve been something truly magical with more time to cook and less reliance on fetch quests.
Nintendo Life: 3 / 10 by Mitch Vogel
We won’t mince words here, Summer in Mara has absolutely nothing to offer that hasn’t been done much better in other games that are easily available right now. If you want a cozy farm sim with a pleasant atmosphere, get Stardew Valley or Rune Factory 4. If you want a thrilling adventure you can take at your own pace, get Minecraft or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Even if you’ve played those and are looking for something new, please don’t waste your time or money here. This is not a 'hidden gem'; the alluring presentation of Summer in Mara only acts as a pretty mask for a much uglier game beneath the surface – one that’s keen on wasting your time with no meaningful payoff.
Wccftech: 6 / 10 by Nathan Birch
Summer in Mara can be endearing and sometimes evokes the spirit of better games like Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, and Wind Waker, but poor UI, confusing mechanics, and repetitive quest design harshes the game's mellow vibe. Perhaps Summer in Mara can be improved with updates, but for now, I'd only book myself on this island cruise at a discount.
