The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human is a representative of the metroidvania genre, developed by independent Swedish studio YCJY. The production was inspired by iconic films (Planet of the Apes, Star Wars) and video games (Shadow of the Colossus, Super Metroid).

Plot

As a result of climate change, water levels have risen sharply across the globe, forcing people to move under the surface of seas and oceans. Civilisation could still develop thanks to access to raw materials and energy sources, but the situation changed in 2971 and humanity had to start looking for another viable planet, using time-space tunnels. In The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human player takes on the role of the pilot of the ship Argo9, which returned to the blue planet after such a journey. However, it turned out that thousands of years have ed on Earth and that the hero is the last living man; his task is to solve the mystery of the extinction of the entire population.

Mechanics

In The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human we observe the action from the side, and the characteristic feature of this title is the dualism of the game. In the course of the game we are engaged in peaceful exploration of seabed and ruins left by humanity. This is all the more important as the developers decided to use an environmental narrative, so that the plot is usually not conveyed directly, but through various items and locations we discover.

Another important element of the game is the dynamic combat - we have to face bosses in the form of giant sea monsters, guarding access to subsequent locations, which we take on with the help of weapons installed on our vehicle. Initially, only the harpoon is made available to us, although over time we are gaining more powerful tools and improvements for the vehicle, thanks to which we can face stronger adversaries. The title is characterized by high level of difficulty - in order to take down an opponent, the player must not only work out its attack pattern, but also discover weaknesses and gaps in defense.

Technical aspect

The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human features pixelart graphics - the melancholic atmosphere (achieved mainly thanks to subdued colors) is intensified by a calm soundtrack.
