Release Date: cancelled
A cancelled first-person action game, which was supposed to be developed by THQ Studio Australia (The Last Airbender) and Blue Tongue Entertainment (de Blob series). The Avengers was planned to allow us to play as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Hulk. The superheroes would have to the Skrulls trying to conquer Earth.
The Avengers is an unreleased action game set in the universe created by Marvel. This production was being developed under the wings of THQ company, and the teams working on it were THQ Studio Australia (known for de Blob series).
In The Avengers we would watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP).
The game was supposed to let us embody characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk. Moreover, it was planned that the group of heroes from the game would be ed by War Machine, Ms Marvel, Hawkeye, and Black Widow.
Individual heroes would differ in of combat skills and fighting style. While the slowest of them, Hulk, would have the greatest strength, Captain America would focus on close combat (and could also throw his shield), Iron Man would be able to fly and shoot enemies with missiles, while Thor would make use of Mjolnir and control lightning.
As for the opponents - we were supposed to encounter enemies imitating Marvel's superheroes. For this reason, we would have to face villains who would fight like Wolverine or the Fantastic Four.
Duels with them would be the spice of the game. Apart from the repertoire of standard attacks, during them we could also perform spectacular finishers, during which the camera would change perspective, showing the finishing blow from a "cinematic" shot. The icing on the cake would be the ability to launch combined attacks with other heroes and create complex combos based on them.
Over time, we would accumulate experience points, which we would use to develop our protagonists, unlocking new skills.
The Avengers was being created primarily as a title designed for online or split-screen cooperative play. Nevertheless, we were to receive the opportunity to play in the company of characters controlled by artificial intelligence. The developers worked on making this last one behave in the most natural way possible.
Even though The Avengers game was supposed to accompany the premiere of the first Avengers movie, the creators decided to prepare their own story, inspired by Secret Wars. During the game, we would have to face the Skrulls- aliens trying to conquer Earth.
