The Banner Saga 3 for PC, PS4 and etc. is the third installment of the critically acclaimed fantasy trilogy set in the world of Norse mythology. Just like the two previous games, it was developed by an indie studio called Stoic. Despite the low sales of The Banner Saga 2, developers decided to finish the story, and launched a Kickstarter campaign.
The Plot
The Banner Saga 3 for PC, PS4 and etc. continues the story from the two previous games. Once again, we lead a caravan of brave warriors that travels through the world straight from the Scandinavian mythology filled with fantastic creatures and magic. This time, however, the end of the world is even closer and we are forced to face the impending darkness and eliminate evil once and for all. As usual, the decisions we make have a big impact on the story and it’s ending. It is up to us to decide who will survive, who will die, or how the people will perceive us.
Mechanics
In of mechanics, The Banner Saga games are a clever blend of a turn-based strategy and an RPG. As we explore the game’s world, we will encounter many NPCs. Some of them will us (if we allow them to), some will give us quests. In combat, we lead a party of heroes who have different abilities and equipment. Between battles, we can camp in order to level up our characters and give them better equipment.
Technical Aspects
The Banner Saga 3 for PC, PS4 and etc. has beautiful, hand-drawn 2D visuals that bring to mind Disney animated movies from the 1990’s – the visuals are truly a highlight of the game. How the game looks also give’s the game’s story a grim, dark character. The game’s soundtrack uses many Scandinavian themes and was composed by Austin Wintory, author of the music from the two previous Banner Saga games and from Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate.
