The Bookwalker is an original adventure game in which we play as a character who travels between physical reality and the worlds described in books. Game was developed by independent studio Do My Best and was published by tinyBuild.
The main character of The Bookwalker is a writer suffering from lack of creative energy. In order to regain the will to work and start writing again, the protagonist must use his supernatural ability, which allows him to visit the worlds described in the books and steal items appearing in them.
The gameplay in The Bookwalker is based on two pillars. First of them are the visits in physical reality, during which we observe the action from a first person perspective (FPP). During them we freely explore the protagonist's apartment and look for items that may prove useful during his escapades. The second segment of the game are visits to the fantastic worlds described in the works, during which we watch the events from an isometric view.
We can visit, among others, gloomy dungeons, an abandoned city and the wreck of a spaceship. In each of these places we have to find a particular famous item, like Excalibur or Mjolnir (Thor's hammer). To get them, we have to talk with the characters and solve various puzzles. The latter requires from us perceptiveness and ingenuity, which comes in handy, among other things, when we have to skillfully use everyday items; for example, a fire extinguisher can put out a fire raging in a mansion, while a crowbar can be used to open a locked door.
Graphics of The Bookwalker is kept in a rather gloomy style.

Game Ratings for The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales Video Game.
video games are good: 7.5 / 10 by Nathan Hermanson
The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales is a complicated read. It's got a fascinating story set in a series of engaging worlds, but actually interacting with it all is a little simpler than imagined. Its story focus is regularly undermined by unnecessary combat sequences that are functionally fine but a drag on the game's pace. But on the other hand, the story's surprising emotional resonance and relationship-driven experience are worth seeing through to the end. Like some of your favorite books from your youth, The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales has some nagging parts that hold it back from wholehearted recommendation, but the effect it had on me is strong enough that I'll fight for it anyway. DO MY BEST did their best — and came out the other end with a special kind of narrative experience that I think most people will find a lot to love in.
GameGrin: 9.5 / 10 by Erin McAllister
The choices lose a bit of their variety as the story goes on and the combat can be a tad simplistic, but The Bookwalker is a beautiful exercise in exploring the humanity of fiction and why we, the audience, should feel for the characters on the page.
Garage Band Gamers: 5 / 10 by Jason Bolla
There are a lot of cool ideas in this, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.
