The Darkest Files is a detective adventure game in which we investigate Nazi crimes and bring their perpetrators to justice. The game was developed by indie studio Paintbucket Games, whose portfolio includes such projects as Beholder 3.

Plot

The Darkest Files takes us on a journey to 1956 . . 11 years after the end of World War II, Hesse's Attorney General Fritz Bauer sets up a special unit to investigate Nazi crimes and prosecute their perpetrators in order to bring them to justice. One of the people assigned this task is the game's main character - young prosecutor Esther Katz.

Game mechanics

In The Darkest Files we observe the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). In the course of the game we search through files from the past, typify witnesses and suspects and subject them to interrogations. During it, we have to keep our attention so that, if necessary, we can point out to our interlocutors contradictions or outright lies in their testimonies. After collecting evidence, we can not only reconstruct the crime on a special board, but also see it with our own eyes, using Esther's imagination. Next, there is nothing left for us to do but to formulate charges against the suspect, file charges and have him arrested. The final stage of our investigation is to convince the court of our version of events and await the verdict of justice.

Technical aspects

Graphics in The Darkest Files is made in an cartoonish style. Its color scheme is dominated by shades of gray and blue, which are broken by yellow and red accents.
