A platform action game in which we find ourselves in a fairy-tale world presented in a crooked mirror. In The Darkest Tales we play the role of a teddy bear, armed to the teeth, who fights for survival in a land full of dangers in pursuit of the lost owner.
The Darkest Tales is a platform action game that takes us on a journey into a world of fairy tales presented in a distorted mirror. The game was developed by the independent Trinity Team studio and released by 101XP.
The main character of The Darkest Tales is a teddy bear named Teddy. The protagonist throws himself into pursuit of his owner, Alice, trapped in a land of terrible dreams and twisted fantasies. Searching for the girl leads him through the places from the most popular fairy tales, which together with their heroes have changed beyond recognition. The Sleeping Beauty, for example, is in eternal sleep, the Little Mermaid has turned into a real sea witch, and the Red Riding Hood has drastically changed its culinary preferences; it seems that only fairies have managed to preserve good nature. As if that were not enough, there are many dangers here , with bloodthirsty, gingerbread men at the forefront.
The Darkest Tales is a side-scroller. The game is divided into levels, which we go through, jumping from platform to platform, avoiding numerous traps, solving uncomplicated environmental puzzles, and fighting against hordes of enemies. During the clashes, we have to show dexterity and reflexes, and make proper use of the unusual arsenal of heroes. The protagonist has two swords made of scissors, which allow him to fight in close proximity, as well as a bow firing arrows made of needles, thanks to which he can get rid of his enemies from a safe distance. In addition, it has a hook line that allows it to swing over chasms and thus cover long distances in the air. On the Teddy's path stand both smaller opponents (like the gingerbread men mentioned above) and much more powerful enemies acting as bosses.
Graphic design of The Darkest Tales is kept in a fairytale but dark style. Many locations are plunged into darkness, and some of the 'crooked' elements of the depicted world can cause concern.

If The Darkest Tales' gameplay was tightened up a great deal, I would have thoroughly enjoyed it as it has quite a unique premise.

The Darkest Tales is a solid action 2D Platformer with a twist on classic Fairy Tales. A fun short adventure that tells a story about a teddy bear trying to rescue its owner. Plus, how cool is a duel-wielding Teddy Bear? How much more do you want?
Worth Playing: 6 / 10 by Cody Medellin
The Darkest Tales is a game that you want to like but can't due to some significant issues. The concept isn't exactly new, but it is interesting to see known fairy tales embrace a much darker side. The 2D perspective makes it feel fresh, since other similar titles tend to go with 3D. The characters are fine, but their intrigue comes from the dark turns taken in service of the game. The platforming and combat feel off, and even though there's some depth in the skill tree, those aforementioned factors will make it difficult for players to press through to the end. If you have the patience or don't mind playing on the easy difficulty level to get through this title, then snap it up if it goes on sale. Otherwise, with the platform already flooded with excellent 2D adventure games, it feels safe to skip this one.
