The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time is the last part of Gage Blackwood's adventures and Time Protection Agency. We observe the game again in the first person, and it focuses on exploring the location and solving riddles. In this part of the cycle we find ourselves in Atlantis and El Dorado.
The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time is the third full-fledged installment of the first-person SF adventure game series launched in 1992 on Macintosh. The title was published by Red Orb Entertainment, and the creators of the two previous parts - the team at Presto Studios - are responsible for its creation. This production crowns The Journeyman Project series, which deals with the subject of time travel and its consequences.
The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time is a continuation of themes from the previous two parts of the cycle. As a result of the events presented there, time travel was completely banned and the Time Protection Agency was closed. Unfortunately, the protagonist of the series, former agent Gage Blackwood is still struggling with the consequences of his past. The main antagonist of the hero returns, known under the code name Agent 3, once again causing serious disturbances in the structure of time.
In pursuit of his nemesis, Blackwood also discovers that an aggressive, alien race is heading toe Earth, looking for the title artifact, known as the Legacy of Time. Once again ing forces with the AI called Arthur, the former TSA agent visits mythical lands such as Atlantis, El Dorado and Shangri-La to find all the artifact fragments before they fall into the hands of the invaders.
The general objectives of The Journeyman Project 3 remain unchanged, and the game focuses mainly on exploring subsequent 3D locations, collecting clues and items, and solving various logic puzzles. For the first time in the history of the series, it is also possible to conduct dialogues and interact with NPCs. We observe the action again from the perspective of the main character, but unlike in the previous parts of the series, this time we can rotate the camera freely within a 360 degree radius. Thanks to this, the hero's freedom of movement and the ability to interact with elements of the environment has increased significantly.
The game completely dopped the system of so-called bio-chips, whose usefulness in earlier parts of Gage Blackwood's adventures was one of the most frequently criticized elements of the game. A complete novelty is the unique suit called Chameleon Suit, thanks to which our protagonist is able to scan the characters they encounter and then take on their appearance. This skill has had a significant impact on the mechanics of the game, as Blackwood no longer has to avoid recognition, but instead plays one of eighteen different, ususpicious characters. Just like in The Journeyman Project 2, during the game we are accompanied by artificial intelligence, which integrates with the hero's suit and provides him with a number of useful tips.
Thanks to the dynamic development of technology, The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time brought a significant number of technical novelties, ranging from the aforementioned possibility of smooth 360 degrees of camera rotation, through a simplified and thoroughly remodeled game interface, to a significant increase in the size of the action window, which in this version has been extended across the entire width of the screen. The visual layer of the game has also improved significantly, with more details, smoother animation and even more high quality film sequences with live actors.
