The Last of Us Video Game Series

In 2022, a full-fledged remake of the first part of the series hit the PlayStation 5, namely. The Last of Us: Part II Remastered.

Meanwhile, the Naughty Dog studio was working on The Last of Us: Factions, a multiplayer spin-off of the seriesinto which the multiplayer mode created for the second part of the series evolved. Ultimately, however, that project was canceled.

The plot in games of The Last of Us series

The plot of the games under the banner The Last of Us takes place in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by a global pandemic of the cordyceps fungus; after mutation it began to attack people and turn them into bloodthirsty zombie-like beasts.. The main character of the first part of the series is a smuggler named Joel, whose task is to escort the orphaned Ellie across the United States. Along the way, the protagonist discovers that the girl is immune to cordyceps spores; moreover, over time, the two begin to share an increasingly close bond reminiscent of a father-daughter relationship. In the second installment of the series, on the other hand, we play the roles of Ellie and Abby; although the heroines are on opposite sides of the barricade, both are driven by a desire for revenge for the wrongs that have befallen them.

Gameplay in The Last of Us games

Productions under the banner of The Last of Us are action adventure games with a camera placed behind the character's back (TPP). During the gameplay we traverse a variety of locations and perform tasks, often facing both healthy people and infected. The former act in a more coordinated manner, are able to use firearms and melee weapons, but are less resilient and not as sensitive to sounds. Infected, on the other hand, behave chaotically, attack only at close range and react to even the quietest sound. We can deal with all enemies with pistols, shotguns, bombs, clubs or boards, inflicting high damage, but drawing the attention of other enemies, or through silent eliminations, such as strangulation, blade kills or bow shots. A listening mode is also at our disposal, allowing us to detect enemies through walls.

An important part of the gameplay is sensible resource management. Exploring the available locations, we find only a limited amount of ammunition, tablets, materials or parts for upgrading weapons, and each find has its valuable use in the game. When we collect a sufficient amount of medical supplies, we can use them to improve the character, such as increasing the level of life or reducing the tremor of the target. Found materials, including alcohol, saltpeter and tape, are used to make disposable items such as first aid kits, bombs and Molotov cocktails. We use parts to improve weapons in special workshops, where we improve the parameters of our arsenal.

Modes in the games of The Last of Us series

The first installment of the series The Last of Us offered not only a single-player mode, but also a multiplayer module, combining network elements with some of the mechanics available in story mode. The second part of the series did not have a multiplayer option.

Popularity of the series and The Last of Us series

Series The Last of Us won critical and player acclaim, earning high ratings and numerous industry awards, as well as dizzying sales figures. Both the first and second installments of the series boast extremely high average ratings from industry media - according to Metacritic, they are 95/100 and 93/100, respectively.

A series based on the first installment of the series debuted in 2023. In it, the role of Joel was played by Pedro Pascal, while Bella Ramsey portrayed Ellie. Its script, meanwhile, was the result of a collaboration between Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog and Craig Mazin, whose recognition came with the series Chernobyl.
