The Lord of The Rings Online: Helm's Deep for PC is the ninth expansion to a popular MMORPG based on the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien and developed by Turbine Entertainment.

Plot

As the title suggests, this expansion revolves around the defense of Helm's Deep. A player can assume the role of a recruit starting at experience level 10 and participate in the grand Battle of the Hornburg – the largest battle ever featured in The Lord of The Rings Online. Player’s successes and failures affect the result of the battle. Moreover, each victory is well rewarded with precious items and experience points. The expansion described herein, however, is not limited to the Helm's Deep – players get to explore multiple new locations in the western parts of Rohan, such as the Dunharrow stronghold and Edoras, the capital city of Rohan.

The Lord of The Rings Online: Helm's Deep constitutes the next chapter in an epic story started by the base game and continued throughout the following expansions. During his adventures, a player is bound to encounter numerous characters known from the books and movie adaptations, such as Aragorn, Eowyn, and Eomer. Apart from defending the Helm's Deep, a player is tasked with helping King Theoden in regaining his power.

Helm's Deep increases the level cap up to 95 and introduces a wide range of new skills and improved specializations for each available class. Certain improvements apply to the combat system, resulting in more exciting battles both afoot and ahorse.

Technical aspects

Since mid-2010, the game has switched to a free-to-play business model. This means that players can enjoy it for free, however, those who want to unlock the access to the so-called ' content' have to utilize the optional microtransactions system.
