A standalone expansion to the online hunting simulator The Hunter, prepared in collaboration between Expansive Word and Avalanche Studios (Just Cause creators). Gameplay combines all features you would expect from a hunting simulator with MMO elements focused on online multiplayer competition.
theHunter: Primal is a standalone expansion to an online hunting simulator, prepared for PC in collaboration between small Swedish studio Expansive Words and the experienced team at Avalanche Studios (theHunter. Unlike that game, distributed as a free-to-play title, this expansion comes with a pricetag.
Gameplay combines classic elements of hunting simulators, like the Deer Hunter series, and multiplayer-focused online games. In theHunter: Primal for PC you traverse a vast open world, teaming with life and realistically behaving fauna. Unlike the original game, in which you would track and hunt various species of animals living in our days, theHunter: Primal introduces dinosaurs — in harmony with the recent fashion, thanks to which the prehistoric reptiles are enjoying their second youth in video games. In the game you can encounter a whole lot of dinosaurs, starting from the smaller, agile ones all the way through to really heavy giants.
New type of game requires new, specialized hunting equipment, big enough to take down various species of the now extinct reptiles. This change also entails moving the center of balance of gameplay from a simple hunting game towards a full-blooded survival. As you play you get to explore a vast area in search of tracks and lairs of prehistoric reptiles. Quite often, however, instead of being a merciless hunter, you turn into a prey, which forces you to run and hide from great dinosaurs.
Just like it was in the original game, interactions with other players are as important here. theHunter: Primal lets you play together with friends and in hunting parties with them — because it is easier to handle challenges developers throw at you in cooperation. You can also challenge other players and take part in multiple tournaments and competitions. Your progression in the game is always recorded in your hunting profile. The best players can make it to the top of online ranks.
As it was before, theHunter: Primal is powered by in-house game engine created by Avalanche Studios. Hence, graphics did not change, not technically at least, although this time we visit more prehistoric terrains.
