Tiny Barbarian DX is an action platform game developed by independent studio StarQuail Games. The first version of this production, i.e. Tiny Barbarianwas the work of one person, created with the help of Game Maker. The position described here, which has already found its way to PC and Switch as a much more developed, full-fledged product, was created thanks to a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
The developers decided on an unusual distribution model - the game was divided into episodes made available at regular intervals, in the form of free updates. Each of them is a separate story, offering a unique setting for action, enemies and soundtrack.
In Tiny Barbarian DX we take control of a title barbarian. We get to know the hero when he is captured, tied to a tree and left for dead by crazy cultists. The protagonist manages to escape, and his goal from now on is take revenge on his oppressors.
Tiny Barbarian DX;s gameplay is based on a formula characteristic for the genre. The action is observed from the side, while the game consists of going right, jumping on platforms, swinging on ropes, avoiding traps (like spikes protruding from the ground or stones falling from the ceiling) and fighting against enemies encountered with the use of melee weapons.
While defeating smaller adversaries is not a problem for our muscular protege, taking down larger opponents (acting as bosses) requires perfect mastery of the controls system, dodging and executing fast, precise attacks (they can be chained into spectacular combinations). It is worth mentioning that from time to time the barbarian is able to ride a mount - a tiger-like creature and an overgrown insect, use to complete some stages.
Tiny Barbarian DX's audiovisuals adopt a retro style - pixel-art graphics are accompanied by chiptune soundtrack, which evokes associations with the hits from the 8-bit era.
