Tomb Raider is the latest installment of the classic action series game spiced with adventure elements. The game was developed by Crystal Dynamics, the same studio that created three previous installments, i.e. the Anniversary, Legend and Underworld.

This game is a series reboot so you play as young Lara Croft before she became the famous adventurer. Powerful storm damages Lara’s research vessel and our heroine lands on a mysterious island near the coast of Japan. The player’s task is to survive in wild and hostile environment.

This time Lara is both the hunter and the prey. This aspect is stressed owing to new brutal combat mechanics and various applications for available weapons, i.e. a bow. To survive, players must use everything they have at hand, while found ropes, hooks and machetes may be essential when exploring the game world. Additional feature is a new movement system enabling almost any possible move that only comes to the player’s mind. The Tomb Raider series has been renowned for its platform game elements and the latest installment significantly raises the bar in this regard.

Hardcore Gamer: 4.5 / 5 by Adam Beck

Tomb Raider remains one of the better action games to have been released in the last twelve months, and it gives the next generation consoles some life in a rather dry time. This is without doubt the definitive console edition of Tomb Raider, but the completeness and subtle visual enhancements are not enough to warrant another playthrough.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is as exciting as it is gorgeous, offering a robust adventure that satisfies on almost every front.

Push Square: 8 / 10 by Sammy Barker

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is an exceptional port of an already entertaining escapade, but outside of the extravagant visuals, there's not a whole lot to sweeten the purchase a second time. If you have a perverse penchant for grave robbing, or you've never stepped foot on the strange shores of Yamatai before, then this is an enjoyable band-aid for the emerging next-gen drought. Just don't expect it to change your mind if you didn't like the original game.
