Total War: Attila Expansion Pack
Release Date: June 25, 2015
An expansion pack for Total War: Atilla - another installment in a series of popular strategy games developed by Creative Assembly. The Last Roman expansion introduces an extensive, story-driven campaign that begins in 533 AD, that is, with the fall of the Western Roman Empire, which created room for many barbarian kingdoms.
The Last Roman for PC is the first major expansion pack for Total War: Atilla – a strategy game developed by Creative Assembly, which is a team popular mainly for a series of war-themed historical games Total War. The expansion requires the player to have the base Total War: Atilla installed.
The campaign in The Last Roman begins in AD 533. By that time, the Western Roman Empire had collapsed, creating room for barbarian kingdoms. The Byzantine emperor Justinian decides to make a last-ditch effort to resurrect a fallen legend – he sends Belisarius on the mission, who is an experienced leader and a hero from the Battle of Dara, whom the emperor considers the last true embodiment of the Roman spirit. Assuming the role of Belisarius, the player leads a Roman expedition in order to re-aquire their lands in the name of the emperor; however, Belisarius can also become the new monarch of the West instead.
The main feature of Total War: Atilla – The Last Roman for PC is a story-driven campaign set on a detailed map that includes Western Europe and North Africa. The gameplay formula remains unchanged: running the country is turn-based and takes place on the world map; when it comes to battles, those are in real-time as usual. Traditionally, the players have a lot of liberty in developing their armies, cities, or technologies, as well as in choice of new targets to attack. This time however, the player is not entirely free as to what they decide to do, because the emperor entrusts Belisarius with particular tasks and ignoring those can result in serious consequences. Moreover, the empress has her demands as well, apart from Belisarius's own wife. Goals of these persons are often contradictory, thus making everyone happy is not possible. It is up to the player to decide to whom do they wish to remain loyal.
The list of playable factions was enriched with 5 new ones, including the Roman expedition, as well as tribes of Ostrogoths, Vandals, Franks and Visigoths. Those differ in bonuses they come with, as well as their individual starting locations. Each of these factions was given a handful of additional combat units matching the historical realities. Also, the expansion brings many buildings and technologies.
