The third installment in a strategic tower-defense game with action elements. The franchise was created in 2010 by Signal Studios. Gameplay in Toy Soldiers: War Chest is based on the series' token mechanics. You control an army of toy soldiers who have to defend their base from enemy attacks. To that end you must deploy various cannons and guns, which can later be upgraded to increase their fire power.
Toy Soldiers: War Chest is the next installment to the top-selling, award-winning Toy Soldiers franchise. For the first time, players will be able to choose from a variety of unique Heroes and Armies. Defend your toy box and take the battle to your enemies with one of four incredible armies. Lead from the strategic level, placing and upgrading turrets, or take direct command of turrets or heroes to decimate the opposition. Upgrade and customize armies while fighting through each of the four campaigns or take the fight online in new and returning multiplayer modes.

While War Chest could've used better matchmaking with player match-ups and a little more variety with battle missions, it's still a fun trip through kiddie nostalgia, especially if you double down on the Hall of Fame Edition and pit G.I. Joe against He-Man. I mean, who doesn't want to see that battle happen?!

Overall, Toy Soldiers: War Chest isn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, it's just probably not worth adding to your collection.

The variety in game modes doesn't quite make up for the lack of heroes, but Toy Soldiers: War Chest provides some quality entertainment for tower defense aficionados. Even those who typically avoid the genre might appreciate the ability to control turrets and heroes.
