Treasure Planet is a Disney Interactive game released on the occasion of the premiere of an animated film of the same title. Both the film and the game are a modern version of science fiction, Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure novel Treasure Island. The action of the game is set in a futuristic fantasy world, where space is crossed by beautiful sailing ships, galleons, frigates and other 18th century ships. The events presented in the game take place five years after those known from animated films. Jim Hawkins finishes the Royal Navy Academy and starts his career in the navy. The Empire is a step away from g a peace treaty with the eternal enemy, the Procyons, and it seems that peace will finally prevail. However, suddenly new, unknown aggressors begin to appear in space, emptying planets and transport ships. Our hero, as a navy officer, has to stand up to the new threat.
Treasure Planet is a real-time strategy that eliminates the elements typical of most of today's RTSs, i.e. raw material management and building bases, with the main emphasis on presenting spectacular battles. Ships, although moving in space, are characterized by the same parameters as real vessels, manoeuvres in the same way, have futuristic versions of classical weaponry, i.e. cannons, harpoons, etc. The ships are also characterized by the same parameters as real vessels. The game is divided into a series of missions, in which we have to explore different islands, fight fierce battles with encountered pirates and gradually discover more fragments of the mysterious invasions. As already mentioned, the essence of the game are sailing ship duels. The authors used here a rather simple and at the same time very playable system of fighting fumes mainly on the power and accuracy of fire and maneuverability. The winner is the one who manoeuvres the ship better, makes better use of the power of the sails and sends the opponent more cannonballs. Of course, the indispensable element of pirate games - murdering - has not been forgotten here either. The game has a very attractive, three-dimensional graphic engine prepared by the team of Barking Dog's "ARES engine". (spectacular explosions, smoke, damage to ships, sails, hulls, etc.).
