Release Date: June 13, 2016
A spin-off of the Trials series, an arcade motorcycle racing game. Trials of the Blood Dragon is set in the pulp cyberpunk universe known from the standalone expansion for Far Cry 3. The plot takes place in the near future, and you play as a pair of twins, Slayter and Roxanne Colt, the descendants of the protagonist of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.
Trials of the Blood Dragon for PC, XONE and PS4 is an arcade game featuring a combination of the mechanics of the Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, a standalone expansion for the popular sandbox TPP shooter game by Ubisoft. Trials of the Blood Dragon is a result of the cooperation between the creators of the Trials series, Finnish studio RedLynx, with Ubisoft Kiev, specializing in PC conversions of the major Ubisoft titles.
The story of Trials of the Blood Dragon takes place in an alternative contemporary reality — strictly speaking, in 2019. You play as a pair of twins, Slayter and Roxanne Colt, the descendants of the legendary Rex “Power” Colt, the protagonist of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. 12 years after Vietnam War 2, in a world inhabited by mysterious blood dragons, where nothing is as it used to be, the protagonists, tough like their father, clever like their mother, go to Vietnam War 4 to save their freedom and the whole world.
The mechanics of Trials of the Blood Dragon are a unique combination of arcade and physics-based races known from the Trials series and the kitschy world of the action movies of the 1980s, known from Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. The basics, however, remained faithful to previous titles by RedLynx, and the gameplay is focused on beating levels full of obstacles, which you can not only have to finish in one piece, but also as quickly as possible.
Still, the gameplay was largely expanded, and apart from a classic motorcycle, you can also use other means of transport, such as a BMX, a freight car or… your own feet. There's more to do in game than just racing, as some levels require the use of a grappling hook or a firearm. During the story campaign, the Colt twins visit many wacky locations, participate e.g. in the Vietnam War, Miami streets riots, a fight with TV show characters in Tokyo, and even go into space.
Visuals-wise, Trials of the Blood Dragon for PC, XONE and PS4 is vastly different from the other games in the Trials series, and the locations are rendered in a colourful kitschy style, matching the wacky atmosphere of the production. The game is complemented by a soundtrack by Australian band PowerGlove – the creators of the Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon soundtrack.

Game Ratings for Trials of the Blood Dragon Video Game.
GameCrate: 7.3 / 10 by Steven Wong
Trials of the Blood Dragon offers a fantastic challenge and features an outrageously funny storyline. However, the lousy platforming shooting elements and frustratingly difficult levels can seriously drag the gameplay experience down.

Despite being a standalone game, Trials of the Blood Dragon is at best a quirky aside to Trials Fusion. With so many truly ridiculous ideas in the story, they’ve given themselves free license to experiment and try new things, but so many of them simply don’t come off and aren’t that much fun. Let’s cross our fingers that RedLynx get back to what the series is so good at with their next game.
Destructoid: 4 / 10 by Brett Makedonski
Truly, the best thing to come out of Trials of the Blood Dragon is that we get a continuation of the Blood Dragon story and a setup for a possible proper sequel. Other than that, it's a forgettable jumble of things that don't live up to either the Trials or the Blood Dragon names. It's kind of ironic that Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is one of the best-executed novel gimmicks in recent memory, because taking that idea and tweaking it to a new extreme has made Trials of the Blood Dragon one of the worst.
