Ultima VII: The Black Gate is the seventh installment of a series of classic cRPG games developed by Origin Systems. The title opens with a three-part series, known as The Age of Armageddon. The plot shows the struggle against the evil demon Guardian, who tries to capture the hearts and minds of Britannians. However, players have a lot of freedom to explore the vast virtual world and perform quests.
As the seventh installment in the Avatar series, The Black Gate starts another episode called The Guardian Saga. It surely is a revolutionary game, both in of detailed graphics, rich and interactive world, and complex game mechanics. The game pretty much offers the possibility of doing whatever one wishes, as all the elements of the world have some kind of function. Ultima VII, coming on a dozen diskettes, is one of the biggest games released before the era of CDs.
Carefully designed engine allows us to observe the world in an isometric view. What’s important, the improvements in graphics did not make the plot second rate.
In The Black Gate, we go back to the world of Britannia after 200 years of absence. Troubling news about ritual crimes come from all over the land, and a mysterious organization - known only as The Fellowship - gains incredible popularity among the people. We must investigate and conduct a long and thorough search in order to find and defeat the Guardian, who is the true leader of The Fellowship. In our travel through Britannia, we are accompanied by the old friends: Iolo, Dupree and Shamino.
