Tactical RPG with roguelike elements, taking us to a dark fantasy world. In Urtuk: The Desolation, we play the role of a hero who wanders with his team through the dark land in search of a cure for his mutation and confronts his opponents.
Urtuk: The Desolation is a tactical RPG enriched with roguelike elements. The author of this production is David Kaleta - an independent developer from Slovakia.
Urtuk: the Desolation takes us on a journey into a dark fantasy world. Centuries ago there was a war between people and giants, as a result of which the latter became completely extinct. Years later it was discovered that the Life Essence obtained from their bones can greatly benefit people by curing diseases, accelerating the healing of wounds, and even slowing down or inhibiting the aging process. Unfortunately, in many cases, its use has had completely different effects, leading to terrifying mutations and deadly diseases. People did not give up and carried out experiments to bring out its true potential.
During the game we play the role of Urtuk, who fell victim to such research. After escaping from the Sanatorium, the protagonist, affected by a mutation that worsens his state every day, travels through a dangerous world in search of an antidote. If he can't find a cure in time, he'll die. However, Urtuk does not have to travel alone, as other victims him in time.
In Urtuk: the Desolation, the action is shown in an isometric view. The main game mode is a procedurally generated campaign, and the game is played on two planes. On the global map, Urtuk and his team travel through a vast world, but when they meet opponents, the game moves to an arena covered by a grid of hexagonal fields. The skirmishes take place in turn-based mode, during which it is as important as skilful use of the abilities of individual characters (representing various professions) to make use of the possibilities offered by the environment. For example, nothing stands in the way of pushing enemies into the abyss, while archers should be placed on hills to give them an advantage in height.
As the game progresses, the heroes gain experience points and advance to the next levels. Although they unlock new skills after each such advance, this is only one way to develop Urtuk and his team. Heroes can take away the abilities from the fallen adversaries (such as pushing enemies during critical hits, automatic counterattack or avoiding a fatal blow), and learn new skills by performing specific actions in combat. In addition, heroes find increasingly powerful equipment and artifacts that also increase their combat potential.
