Valkyrie of Phantasm is an action game (to be precise - bullet hell shooters) with fighting game elements, developed by indie studio Areazero. The game was set in the universe created for the popular Touhou Project series. This series, launched in 1996, in a way defined the bullet hell shooter genre, which ensured not only its popularity, but also numerous imitators. Among the latter is also the position described here.

Plot

Valkyrie of Phantasm takes us on a journey to the fantastic land of Gensokyo. One day it is struck by a meteorite, from which a mysterious light escapes, and after scattering in all directions, it reaches the most powerful residents of Gensokyo. When its rays reached Reimu Hakurei, the girl gained not only powerful armor, called Valkyrie Arms but also supernatural abilities, led by the ability to move through the air with incredible speed. Wanting to find out who gave her this power and for what purpose, the protagonist decides to set out for the source of the rays. Along the way, she will have to face other residents of Gensokyo who, like her, have also been chosen by the light.

Game mechanics

In Valkyrie of Phantasm, we observe the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). We take on the role of one of the heroines and fight extremely dynamic duels in the air. During the clashes we have to be in constant motion, dodge our opponents' attacks and launch lightning fast counterattacks. In the arena we have a wide range of moves at our disposal; we can attack in close quarters, shower targets with a storm of projectiles or make use of combat spells. Besides, the key to victory is the skillful use of attacks and special abilities, the strength of which depends on the degree of filling a special bar (Drive Gauge).
