Visions of Mana is the first new installment in an iconic Final Fantasy) in 15 years. The game was preceded by remakes of the previous installments, created by the publisher's subsidiaries, Xeen and Q Studios. It was supervised by Masaru Oyamada, just like the remakes.
Like the previous games in the series, Visions of Mana is set in a fantasy world, its most important landmark being the mighty Mana Tree. Every four years, an adventurer is chosen to go on a pilgrimage to the Tree. The latest pilgrim is a friend of the game's protagonist, Val. Becoming her guardian, they both set off on a long journey.
Like the previous installment, Visions of Mana makes use of the third-person perspective rather than top-down camera. Once again, it's an action RPG in which we control a group of heroes, using various weapons and magic. Combat is real-time, pitting us against numerous enemies and powerful bosses.

Siliconera: 8 / 10 by Cory Dinkel
Visions of Mana doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it knows damn well what makes a wheel work. It plays like a game we all from childhood, but with all the modern frills. The game delivers a beautifully crafted, nostalgic JRPG experience that’s worth checking out.
ZTGD: 7.5 / 10 by Jae Lee
While Visions of Mana did not end up being the title that will take the series to the next level due to its issues with clunky combat, pedestrian difficulty and lackluster story, it’s still a solid entry to this long running series and a step in the right direction for what I hope will be continued to be improved upon for the next entry.
GamesRadar+: 2.5 / 5 by Autumn Wright
I quickly found the screen would get too cluttered to see my party or enemies, and with no optional targeting lines or much color coding going on, combat choreography is unintelligible.
