Voodoo Detective puts the player in a role of the titular detective, tasked with restoring the memories of amnesiac Mary Fontule. By doing so, the protagonist ends up facing the evil dwelling on the beautiful island of Zo Wanga.

Voodoo Detective is a point & click adventure game inspired by the genre's greats, primarily the Tales of Monkey Island series. It was developed by the independent Short Sleeve Studio.

Plot

Voodoo Detective takes place in 1934 on the Zo Wanga island, specifically in the small town of New Ginen. The main protagonist is the titular, completely broke detective, ready to take any sort of case to fill his pockets. Once the protagonist accepts the task of recovering the memories of amnesiac Mary Fontule, everything gets unexpectedly complicated, forcing the detective to face the evil dwelling on Zo Wanga. Though the story sounds serious, the game itself is rather humorous and full of references to other games and works of culture.

Mechanics

The gameplay in Voodoo Detective is viewed from a number of perspectives. The player traverses New Ginen, talks to its residents and solves various puzzles. These mainly consist of looking for specific items and using them in the correct way; interestingly, the solutions aren't always logical, forcing the player to be creative and think outside the box. Progressing through the game unravels further secrets of the island, bringing us closer to solving the main mystery.

Technical aspects

Voodoo Detective boasts high-quality, colorful and cartoonish 2D visuals. The game's voice cast is also nothing to sneeze at, featuring voice actors known from series such as Psychonauts.
