Wargroove 2 is the second installment in a series of turn-based tactical strategies inspired by Fire Emblem and Advance Wars. Once again, it takes place in a fantasy realm of Anaria, where we can once again follow the story or face other players.
Wargroove 2 is the sequel to the independent tactical strategy inspired by Pathway).
Three years have ed since the events ofWargroove, with peace prevailing in the land of Aurania. It turns out nothing lasts forever, though. The nation's commanders are forced to act once again once a certain faction discovers centuries-old forbidden technology and mysterious assaults start to occur at nighttime.
Wargroove 2 is a classic sequel, not making any drastic changes but rather expanding the previous game's formula. The gameplay is once again turn-based: we explore the map with our army, develop it and lead it into battles fought on separate stages. Battles can take place on land, at sea and in the air.
There are many different commanders to choose from, each representing different factions (including some entirely new ones, such as pirates) and having different specializations. Each commander has a special ability known as a Groove, which can be further enhanced by filling a special meter. Using Grooves at the right time is often key to victory, but we must also learn our units' strengths and weaknesses.
Wargroove 2 consists of three campaigns, their stories intertwining until the game's finale. Competitive multiplayer (online or hot seat), co-op (originally introduced in the free Double Trouble expansion), the map and scenario editors (which have been further expanded) all make their return here as well. Created maps and scenarios can be shared with other players.
New to the sequel is the Conquest mode, based on roguelike games. It consists of fast-paced series of battles, with all gold, units and their health staying the same between each encounter.
Visually, Wargroove 2 uses the same artstyle as its predecessor, still inspired by the Advance Wars series. The cartoonish 2D graphics thus haven't changed much.

Game Ratings for Wargroove 2 Video Game.
Hey Poor Player: 4 / 5 by Andrew Thornton
While Wargroove 2 doesn’t reinvent so much as it refines, my experience with it was far more positive than with the original. Perhaps it was just removing the weight of expectations. The game’s refined stages, absurd variety, and improved story all help. In the end, though, whatever the reasons, I had a blast returning to the world of Wargroove, and I think anyone who enjoys strategy games will find plenty of reasons to spend an awful lot of hours exploring it.
Checkpoint Gaming: 8.5 / 10 by Tom Quirk
Even though Nintendo has now come out with a modern Advance Wars game of its own, Wargroove 2 stands as more than a mere homage. With a grander scale and more units, Commanders, and other gameplay features than ever, Wargroove 2 is an excellent strategy experience. The new Conquest roguelike mode feels like a complete experience packed within an already feature-rich game. Even after the campaigns are over, the Conquest mode, missed optional objectives, and future custom content will ensure plenty of reasons to stick around. If you enjoyed Wargroove or Advance Wars and want another fantastic strategy offering, Wargroove 2 is not to be missed.
VGamingNews: 7 / 10 by Thomas Fathers
Overall, Wargroove 2 may not add too much to its predecessor, but when you already have a good thing going, why change the formula? The long levels and occasional screen clutter can be annoying, and the story of the campaign is not especially cohesive. However, despite the lack of new features, at its core the tactical gameplay and the gorgeous visuals are a true throwback to the brilliant Advance Wars series. If you’re a fan of that formula, then look no further, as Wargroove 2 is available on Xbox Game, Steam and Nintendo Switch.
