Warp is a stealth arcade game enriched with logic elements. This is the debut production of a small Canadian studio, Trapdoor.
The player assume the role of a charming little alien named Zero who was kidnapped by a group of vile human scientists, and then is transported to an underwater research complex. Our task is to escape this place.
The mechanics are a blend of a puzzle game and an arcade, and focuses on the elements of stealth (avoiding enemies and elaborate traps). The adventure is further diversified with original puzzles. Zero has the ability to teleport which allows him to move to the other side of walls and overcoming the obstacles that bar the way. Additionally, you may use this method to jump into the center of an object and thus hide from the ing guard.
Exploration plays an important role in the game. With the progress in the game, the alien expands the range of skills available to him, so that he can get in previously inaccessible places. In time, he acquires such skills that enable him to get in the bodies of men and then rip them to shreds from the inside, or create their own projections which distracts enemies. The whole system is designed so that any obstacle can be overcame in many different ways.
Warp offers a simple but attractive graphic design maintained in a slightly cartoonish and very humorous style. The visual style also shows a clear influence of the Portal series in the form of many clinically clean white rooms. It all gives a game that is pretty pleasurable to look at, even though it offers no technical breakthroughs.
