Where The Bees Make Honey is a reflective story about childhood presented from the adult's point of view. The title combines elements of many genres. The independent studio Wakefield Interactive is responsible for its development. The game was founded thanks to a campaign on Kickstarter in 2017.

Plot

In the game we play the role of Sunny, who, as an adult, immerses herself in her childhood memories to find an answer to what to do next with her life. The nostalgic expedition stretches over four seasons of the year, during which we play as little Sunny, dressed up as a bee. The devs of the game tried to convey children's imagination, i.e. the ability to be physically in one place, but at the same time in a thousand others. That is why the protagonist's bee costume is not ordinary, but provides her with special powers and has an impact on her surroundings. In this form, we visit and interact with fairytale-like locations full of hidden meanings.

In addition, the game also offers us reflections of the adult Sunny about the childhood period of her life and how to find one's place in adulthood.

Mechanics

Where the Bees Make Honey combines elements typical of different genres. The game is divided into logic stages observed from a third-person perspective and introspective stages, in which we explore the world from different camera settings.

In the logic stages we control the little Sunny in bee's outfit and face environmenta puzzle in the surroundings of different seasons. Our outfit has the ability to rotate the board by 90 degrees, which involves playing with the perspective, which, when properly used, gives us access to places normally unaccessible. A similar procedure was used in Fez.

In turn, introspective stages consist of exploring various locations: we have to visit a dangerous jungle, drive a car, turn into a white rabbit or stroll along the street from our childhood.

Technical aspects

Where the Bees Make Honey is a fully three-dimensional game, in the style of a colorful and lively cartoon for children. Such design was intended to show us the world seen through the eyes of a child.
