A 4X turn-based strategy, played on maps resembling dioramas. In Yield! Fall of Rome we control one of the factions dreaming about building a new European empire after the fall of Rome. Each faction has their unique ruler, as well as strong and weak points. We can play alone or online with others.
Yield! Fall of Rome is a turn-based 4X strategy game that allows us to build a new European power after the fall of Rome. The game was developed by the independent Norwegian studio Billionworlds, and its release was handled by Daedalic Entertainment.
Although the process of the fall of Rome began earlier, one of its key moments was the invasion of Germanic tribes into Roman territories at the beginning of the 5th century AD. In Yield! Fall of Rome the authors allow us to take on the role of various rulers who, over the centuries, have been guided by one goal - to build a new European power capable of replacing Rome on the European arena.
We start in Yield! Fall of Rome by choosing a faction. Apart from a unique ruler, each of them has strong and weak points, as well as units that are hard to find in others.
For example, the aforementioned Germans, led by Odoaker, have axe throwers at their disposal, the Britons led by Alfred the Great can use archers equipped with long bows on the battlefield, while the Huns, whose ruler is Attila, send horse archers into battle.
In addition to this, we can play as Arabs (whose monarch is Abu Bakr), Bulgarians (led by Asparuh), Franks (of course their king is Charlemagne), Persians (under the command of Kavadh) and Berbers (led by Tarik).
In Yield Fall of Rome! the game takes place in turn-based mode, on randomly generated maps covered with a grid of hexagonal fields, which we view from a bird's eye view. During this process, our primary goals are exploration and expansion into new territories, acquiring resources necessary for the development of the emerging empire, and finally defeating opponents and taking over their possessions.
We move units around the map, interact with objects located on individual fields, and construct buildings on them. During skirmishes, we send our subordinates to the battlefields, pointing out enemy soldiers with whom they are to engage in combat.
The heart of our empire is the city we develop, where we can recruit new units and construct buildings for various purposes. While some building generate resources and income, others provide us with various bonuses (such as a watchtower that reveals the immediate vicinity).
As we progress, we research new technologies. Thanks to this, over time we gain new sources of resources and units, as well as previously unavailable opportunities, such as climbing mountain peaks. In addition to this, bonuses allow us to achieve so-called milestones, i.e. performing special tasks, such as killing a certain number of adversaries or reaching a specified number of subjects. Another source of bonuses are the rules set by us.
Yield! Fall of Rome can be played solo or in multiplayer mode over the Internet. The game offers a campaign mode as well as the opportunity to cooperate or compete with other players. Due to the fact that in a multiplayer game each participant has 24 hours to complete their turn, the creators allow us to play multiple matches simultaneously.
The graphic design of Yield! Fall of Rome features a cartoonish style. The whole thing looks like a diorama made of plastic figurines of units and models of objects.
