Yoomurjak's Ring is a point & click adventure game created by the Hungarian Private Moon Studios studio. The production, in which we observe all the events from the perspective of the first person, was realized in the convention of an interactive film. What is more, up to 30 professional actors were employed for the title.
The main character of our story is Jonathan Hunt, a young journalist from New York. On his father’s side, he is the great-grandson of Professor Samuel Hunt, the protagonist of AGON, while on his mother’s side he has Hungarian roots. After his mother’s death he decides to set off for Hungary, for the first time in his life. While there, he makes sure to visit the town of Eger, which is the backdrop to one of his favorite childhood readings, ’The Eclipse of the Crescent Moon’. The book is an antique volume, a first edition from 1901. It was his great-grandfather’s and its mysterious origin becomes apparent by two enclosed letters, which were written to Samuel Hunt by a certain Professor Pál Ábray long ago. Jonathan, who inherited a fondness for mysteries and history, decides to search for the Hungarian professor’s descendants while in Eger.
He soon finds a clue in the unfamiliar town but the old gentleman, who knew of professor Ábray, relates a peculiar legend as well. According to his theory, the author Géza Gárdonyi modeled Yoomurjak, the Turkish character in the book, on his grandfather, Zsigmond Jámbor, who was professor Ábray’s aide at the turn of the century and who died in mysterious circumstances. The old gentleman claims that in that period Ábray was working on devising a time machine and due to a doomed journey in time his aide remained in the 16th century. The realistic young Hunt, who is nevertheless susceptible to fantasizing, almost laughs at the theory but he has to it to himself that the story very much corresponds to the contents of the two letters in his possession. What is more, it is exactly this additional information that makes them comprehensible. Mr. Mihály Jámbor promises further evidence and invites Jonathan to a meeting next morning, which, however, never takes place: the old man suddenly dies. In a note that he leaves behind he entrusts the young man to accomplish his unfinished research and bequeaths his closely guarded collection to him. Jonathan eventually obtains the pieces of evidence and realizes for good and all that Mr. Jámbor indeed was on the right track.
