Ys: The Oath in Felghana, released on PC and PSP, is an arcade Japanese RPG produced by Falcom studio. This is a remake of a much older production entitled Ys III: Wanderers From Ys. Compared to the original, the graphics and combat system have been completely transformed.

Plot

Like in most of the games from the series, the main character of The Oath in Felghana is Adol Christin. Together with his friend Dogi, he returns to the village of Redmont after eight years of absence. They quickly discover that the land of Felghana was captured by a bloodthirsty monster. Worse still, the local volcano has become active again, and the ruler of the kingdom ruthlessly exploits his subordinates. As befits real heroes, Adol and Dogi will have to restore order and justice in Felghana with their own hands.

Mechanics

The plot plays a minor role. Instead, the game focuses on killing monsters, collecting treasures and exploring locations, and each of these elements has been superbly crafted. The fight takes place in real-time and the result of the clashes depends primarily on the player's dexterity. The authors have developed a simple control system that allows for many different attacks, special moves and combos.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana also places great emphasis on exploration. During your adventures, you can often come across inaccessible locations, which you can only reach after you have acquired the right skills. The game is made more attractive by the clashes with powerful bosses, which require the invention of new fighting tactics.

Technical aspects

The game debuted in Japan in 2005. The English-language version, released seven years later, features many improvements. A special graphic menu has been added, which allows you to use modern graphic effects and raise the resolution to modern standards. There are also more than thirty Steam achievements.
