Recent months have been filled with reports of mass layoffs at the Embracer Group. The corporation has just announced more job cuts.

  1. This time they included 3D Realms (which is now acting as a publisher) and Slipgate Ironworks. They recently launched The disastrously rated remaster of Kingpin.
  2. We don't know the exact scale of the layoffs, but the reduction is expected to be large - a number of key developers employed at both teams have said goodbye to their jobs.

Scott Miller, founder of 3D Realms (now managing his own studio, Apogee), says that in both cases half of the staff has been laid off.

We don't know how this will affect projects currently in production, such as Phantom Fury, but there is no reason to be optimistic. That's because the director of GRAVEN is known to have been among the laid off staff.

In the case of Core Decay Slipgate Ironworks co-produces these games with other developers (2B Games and Ivar Hill), so in this case layoffs may not hurt these projects.

It is worth mentioning that 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks are only the latest victims of Embracer Group's financial problems. Earlier this year, the company we reported about job cuts at Fishlabs and the liquidation of Free Radical Design.

Unfortunately, layoffs at Embracer Group will not be limited to this year only. It is known that the corporation is planning further job cuts in 2024.
