Beautiful and unavailable. The Witcher Xbox controllers disappeared in a flash, scalpers celebrated The Witcher 3's 10th anniversary in their own way

To celebrate The Witcher 3's 10th birthday, Microsoft revealed a special edition of its controllers. The Standard and Elite Series 2 Core devices with the Witcher themes went on sale and immediately disappeared from the market.

The current generation of Xbox consoles is rich in various special editions of controllers. Recently, a controller with a DOOM: The Dark Ages theme hit the market, and now unexpectedly, a series inspired by the birthday of The Witcher 3 has ed the pool. The controllers went on sale yesterday afternoon, and today they are already unavailable. This applies to both the standard model and the Elite Series 2 Core (see Xbox Wire).

Controllers from The Witcher 3 are already gone

It's no secret that 10 years ago, The Witcher 3 was a huge hit that put Polish gaming on the map like never before. The success was so huge that, for the game's anniversary, Microsoft prepared two new controllers to let fans celebrate their favorite production featuring Geralt as the main character.

The standard Xbox Series controller and the Elite Series 2 Core are visually similar to each other. They have a design similar to the School of the Wolf amulet in the very center, and the D-pad and triggers are covered with shiny paint, reminiscent of the silver and steel swords of Geralt of Rivia. The first controller is priced at $79.99, and the second one at $169.99, which makes them a bit more expensive than their standard counterparts.

From the very beginning, the idea behind their design was to show that they are worn out and kind of personal in a way:

We explored a lot of directions when creating this controller, but from the beginning we knew we wanted to tell a story. We wanted it to feel like something that has been with you on the path, something worn and personal. As we developed concepts, we began crafting the story of this controller — and how it might exist in The Witcher 3's world. This narrative is what we fell in love with. It had to feel like it belonged in The Witcher 3 universe — like it had lived through battles and carried stories of its own.

Unfortunately, it seems like the biggest challenge in getting them was probably the scalpers, who are even harder to beat than the Wild Hunt or another round of Gwent. The controllers went on sale on May 22, and today they are completely sold out. Either we'll soon see them at auctions at inflated prices, or Microsoft has prepared a definitely too small supply.
