Steve Dan has confirmed that he is no longer the narrative director of World of Warcraft, which by no means upset most Azeroth fans.

World of Warcraft's narrative director is another person to leave Blizzard Entertainment. Steve Dan confirmed this information in an interview with PC Gamer, and last week fans noticed a mention of his departure from the company on LinkedIn (via Reddit ).
Dan certainly didn't leave Blizzard as part of the massive layoffs Microsoft announced in January. His departure took place in November last year and - as he himself claims - there's nothing to it, hence the lack of an official statement from him or Blizzard.
The former narrative director of WoW only mentioned that his decision was influenced, on the one hand, by the "return to offices" policy, curbing remote work at Blizzard Entertainment (Dan lives outside California, where the studio is located), and, on the other hand, by the desire to part with Warcraft and pursue other goals.
He revealed nothing about his future plans, however. He only mentioned that the year 2024 is supposed to be "exciting" for him. He also added that he's proud of what he achieved with the addition of Dragonflight.
The players are definitely not mourning Dan's departure. Many fans blamed him for what they considered subpar narrative in recent additions to WoW. Rare voices suggested that the narrative director was just a scapegoat and his potential departure wouldn't improve the game's plot.
Even some of Dan's critics agree with them, although other Internet s have the recent report about the dismissal of other people responsible for the narrative and background plot, including the so-called historians.
