Doom Eternal Without Invasion Mode, but With New Single-player Challenges
Doom Eternal will not receive Invasion Mode, which was supposed to enable us to „invade” other players. Instead, id Software will create a new single-player mode called Horde and revamp Battlemode, which allows for 2 vs 1 battles.

id Software Souls series. As the reason for the withdrawal of the idea, the devs cite the prolonged development cycle, due to the pandemic. However, we will not be left with anything - the devs promise to focus on preparing a completely new Horde mode, as well as refreshing Battlemode, enabling the players to take part in asymmetrical clashes: a pair of demons versus the Slayer (all controlled by the players).
Doom Eternal's Executive Producer, Marty Stratton, explained the studio's decision as follows:
"We intended to release a free Invasion Mode update for the game; however, the unforeseen consequences of the pandemic and remote working impacted the progress of development for this addition. Over this time, we have also seen and heard how many of you enjoy the range of gameplay and combat available in the expansions and master levels. With these factors in mind, we have decided to redirect our focus from Invasion Mode to creating a totally new single-player horde mode. We’re confident this horde mode will offer you more of the diversity and challenge you’re looking for in the game. In addition, the team continues to work on a refresh of BATTLEMODE that includes a more competitive, rank-based structure, a number of gameplay and balance updates, and another new map."
More information on the novelties in Doom Eternal will probably be announced at QuakeCon, which is skins, although earlier the devs promised no microtransactions.
