Doom Eternal is a classic FPP shooter that is a direct sequel to 2016's Doom, the critically and gamer well-received reboot of the legendary FPS series that was born in 1993. The game was developed by id Software studio. During the adventure, players travel between dimensions, visiting, among other things, the Earth overrun by the invasion of demons from hell. To defeat them you can use a rich arsenal of deadly weapons, known from the previous part, but improved by several gadgets.

Doom Eternal is most inspired by the second part of the series - Hell on Earth released in 1994 - and pays tribute to the classic. The appearance of the demons, as well as the first-aid kits and flacons have been modified to resemble those of the past. For nostalgia enthusiasts there is a set of classic weapon sounds from MS-DOS version or skin of the main character referring to the original.

Plot

The story directly continues the events of the previous part and starts some time after it ends. Once again, we take on the role of the superhumanly gifted Doom Slayer to stop the forces of hell that have infiltrated Earth and other places in the Solar System. Apart from Earth, during the campaign we also visit Mars and its moon, Phobos - as well as locations in alternative dimensions.

Doom Game Series

FPS series being one of the forerunners of the first-person shooter genre. The series was created by id Software studio and has, so to speak, three "fathers" - John Carmack, John Romero and Tom Hall. Nevertheless, over the years, teams such as Midway Games and Nerve Software have also been involved in its development. Although the series made its debut on personal computers, over time it began to make its presence increasingly clear also on consoles, as well as on mobile devices.

TheGamer: 5 / 5 by Eric Switzer

Failure is part of mastery, and by the end of my ~20-hour playthrough of DOOM Eternal, I felt like I had developed a far greater mastery of the game than I ever did in DOOM (2016). Some battles took me 20 tries or more, it's true, but by the time I got through it I learned the timing of every wave and used every single one of my abilities to survive. For that, DOOM Eternal is likely the most satisfying shooter ever made. The easy mode (I'm Too Young To Die) is still available for anyone who prefers the mindless carnage of DOOM (2016), but I promise you, DOOM Eternal is worth the struggle.
