All freezing issues known by developers in Doom the Dark Ages
Let’s start with information that developers are aware of at least some of problems causing freezes. They have discovered that this issue often occurs when you try to record a game image with OBS and do alt-tabbing while running Doom the Dark Ages Fullscreen. Until there is an OBS update, this can be solved by selecting Windowed or Borderless mode.
The second problem described by the developers is related to unplugging the second monitor during gameplay. The obvious solution is not to unplug the second monitor while playing Doom the Dark Ages. Alternatively, you can unplug it before launching the game, as it may help to run the game is some cases.
Other problems causing freezing in Doom the Dark Ages
On the other hand, if none of the above apply to you, yet you still experience image freezing, you may try some more tricks.
- It is worth disabling Nvidia Reflex, as it is this option that cause freezing problems for some players.
The second reason could be due to installing the latest drivers. While it is recommended by developers and should make your gameplay experience better (especially if you do clean installation), it may cause problems for some. If you fall into the second group, then restore the previous drivers. To do this:
- Simultaneously press the Windows + X keys on your keyboard.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display Adapters.
- Double-click your display device.
- Select the Driver tab.
- Click Roll Back Driver to restore.
If the option is greyed in your case, you need to manually find the drivers on the webpage of your GPU manufacturer.
The last reason of the game being unresponsive is the most obvious one, and it is about not meeting the minimum requirements of the game. Make sure your PC is powerful enough, especially double check that you have NVME SSD storage, as this requirement may be easily overlooked.
