There may be another Elden Ring Nightreign network test to make up for server issues
It’s not surprising that a network test might have issues with the network. That’s what a network test is for. This is the first time a game in the FromSoftware pantheon has had such a huge emphasis on multiplayer. According to many players’ poor experiences, it turns out it was a good idea to have some network tests before launching the game, which is planned for just a few months: May 29th, 2025. Getting the chance to participate in the network test was also not easy. Players were entered into a lottery, and then if they are granted access, there are only five three-hour sessions depending on your region. For example, where I am writing from on the West Coast of the US session 1 took place from 3am to 6am this morning, with session 2 scheduled for 7pm to 10pm tonight. Thanks to Polygon for compiling session times.
After last night’s strenuous test, FromSoftware is apparently considering adding a sixth test session to give those who missed their chance another opportunity. Their social media post did specifically say “an additional Network Test is being considered.” So, it may not be something to get your hopes up about just yet. The network tests are planned to continue through February 16th and 17th, depending on your region, so we may not know more until then.
If this is the first you’re hearing about Elden Ring Nightreign’s network tests, it is unfortunately too late to sign up. But you can Dark Souls series, but it turns it into a multiplayer experience where players team up to take on bosses, gather upgrades, level up, and try to survive.
Elden Ring Nightreign was announced at the Game Awards and is a standalone game, unlike Game of the Year nominee Shadow of the Erdtree, which was DLC. If Nightreign ends up being as well-made and beloved as its predecessors, it could be the third time that an Elden Ring game has been nominated for Game of the Year in the last four years. For now, we will have to wait and see how the remaining network tests go, and how the game is received when it launches in May.
