Mandalorian's Gina Carano Fired by Disney
Gina Carano has been fired from LucasFilm. This follows a recent controversial post by the actress in which she used an unusual comparison to the Holocaust.
Gina Carano has been stirring up a lot of controversy for quite some time, partly through her own fault. Recently, however, the actress has apparently gone too far. Lucasfilm has fired Carano and has no plans to engage her in the future (via The Hollywood Repoter). United Talent Agency (UTA) has done the same and severed its connections with the star (via Deadline).
Back in November 2020, some fans were calling for Gina Carano to be fired, despite the positive reception of her role in The Mandalorian. ittedly, barely a week ago, some viewers declared their for the actress playing Cara Dune in the series, but that hasn't silenced the critical voices. Carano got many internet s on edge with her controversial posts. She spoke negatively about, among others, wearing masks due to the ongoing pandemic, the Black Lives Matters initiative and the presidential election, which - if one had the pleasure to read the "discussions" on Twitter or Facebook - in social media is the equivalent of detonating a huge (extremely stinky) bomb.
However, the actress seemed to be getting away with her declarations so far. Yes, LucasFilm was rumored to have dropped the plans to unveil a show on Disney+ starring Carano in December, but other than that, there was no indication of an imminent end to the partnership. That changed after the recent (and apparently now deleted) post in which - in the briefest of - Carano compared hating people for their political views (implied: being a Republican) to the Holocaust.
It should be added, however, that according to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, this was not as sudden a decision as it might seem. LucasFilm executives had been planning to part ways with Carano for two months, and the actress' latest actions proved to be the perfect excuse. It's impossible to confirm if that was in fact the case, but in the end it doesn't really matter. The fact is that Star Wars fans have to say goodbye to Cara Dune, at least in Gina Carano's creation.
