Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct was full of Hollow Knight, was announced in 2018, but has seen very little new information ever since. At this point, it has become a meme.
Hollow Knight: Silksong appeared for five seconds in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct
For the last few years, every video game showcase live stream has had the inevitable Silksong hopes and dreams shouted into the void via live chat. The fandom has reached a point where even the slightest change, such as Grand Theft Auto 6. They could drop a trailer tomorrow and it would probably overshadow the Nintendo Switch 2 news.
Silksong was once expected to be released in 2023 Stardew Valley is far from cancelled, I wouldn’t expect to see it any time in the next few years. Some of these indie developers have spoken about the weight of success. How living up to their previous success not only puts immense pressure on them, in some cases it provides them with such financial security and stability that there is no point in rushing out the next title.
In yesterday’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Hollow Knight: Silksong appeared during the third-party sizzle real, a section of the presentation where short clips of various games are shown with little introduction or fanfare. This was surprising not just for the fact that it actually happened, but also the fact that such a huge game was only shown for about five seconds. It doesn’t even look like we got any new gameplay either.
But the major takeaway from Silksong’s inclusion is that they included a 2025 release window. After years of waiting, this could finally be the year. As a developer recently responded on social media to a pleading fan: Hollow Knight: Silksong is real, progressing, and will release. And it will be on the Switch 2. For now, we’ll have to wait to see if we hear anything more.
