Today, suddenly appeared for five seconds in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct to confirm a 2025 release window.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable in a museum in September

Australia’s Melbourne based national museum of Screen Culture, or ACMI, will host a playable version of Hollow Knight: Silksong on September 18th. If you didn’t know, Team Cherry, the development team behind both Hollow Knight and Silksong, is based in Adelaide, Australia, which does make this make more sense. The co-curators of the museum, Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, had this to say: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong’s initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centerpiece of Game Worlds in September.” It’s not exactly clear how much of the game will be playable, though chances are it’s just a short demo. The museum exhibition including Silksong is called Game Worlds, and outside of the playable game, it will also feature displays that focus on other aspects of the game like its design and sprites.

Of course, the big question with this news is whether this will be the first place and time that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable by the public. Somehow, it would make sense after for a museum to be the first place where people can play Silksong after all this build up. Any other fanbase might consider this an insult, and that’s still possible, but at this point, it makes a great meme. On the other hand, Silksong could be released on the same day, or ahead of it.

We’ve recently discussed why Gearbox has said that the date change had nothing to do with GTA, but maybe Borderlands 4 was clearing the way for Hollow Knight: Silksong all along. For now, we’ll have to wait to hear more about this highly anticipated game.
