Is The Residence based on a book? Here's what inspired the showrunner to create a murder mystery series for Netflix
What is Netflix's The Residence based on? The showrunner revealed what inspired him to create the series.

A new series, Netflix. This murder mystery introduces viewers to a story set in the White House, where a formal dinner took place, which will be considered not only the most disastrous, but also deadliest. Someone dies at the White House, and the murderer is unknown. This case must be solved, and only the ironic detective Cordelia Cupp played by Uzo Aduba can take care of it.
Was Netflix's The Residence inspired by the book?
Is this murder mystery based on a true story? Or is it based on a novel? No and no. The Residence is an original story, although the book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower serves as a starting point. The problem is that in Andersen Brower's work you won't find a murder story full of twists and turns, it's the work of Paul William Davies, the showrunner of the Netflix series, who was inspired by the aforementioned book. That is to say, he used the behind the scenes look at the White House, which became known to himself thanks to Andersen Brower.
Nonetheless, if The Residence has made you curious about what goes on behind the scenes of the White House and you want to learn more about daily life in the famous building, looking at it through the eyes of maids, butlers, cooks, florists, doormen, engineers, and others who take care of the President and First Family, then Kate Andersen Brower's book is worth picking up. But don't count on experiencing another murder story there, because you'll only find that in the Netflix series.
You can watch this eight-episode limited series with an interesting cast on Netflix starting March 20.
