The Lord of the Rings trilogy from Peter Jackson is an iconic fantasy series that has won Oscars and is acclaimed around the world. Fans of the genre consider it a must-see item, although it turns out that the films are not for everyone. And certainly not for Jack Nicholson, who had enough during the screening of The Return of the King.

Elijah Wood, while taking part in The Graham Norton Show, recounted his interaction with Jack Nicholson, who asked him about the ending of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, as he himself couldn't make it to the end. For the legendary actor, the production finale dragged on too much.

Wood quoted Nicholson's words from his conversation with him when two of them and Dustin Hoffman were standing together backstage at the Golden Globes, and the subject of LOTR surfaced.

It just had so many endings. It just wouldn't end.

Wood expanded on his conversation with Nicholson, mentioning how the actor asked about an ending he had not seen.

He said, “What happened.” And I said, “Jack, what do you mean what happened?” He is like, “Tell me what the end was.” And I said, “Well, at the end the Hobbits are saying goodbye to each other, Frodo gets on the boat and sails to the undying land.” He said, “I didn't even see that, I walked out before the ending.” So he was just basically complaining that there was just too many endings.

Jack Nicholson was not the only person to point out the “dragging” ending of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. At the Academy Awards ceremony, Billy Crystal joked about it, saying: “Lord of the Rings, with 11 nominations. One for each ending.”
