Sony found no reason to continue the story of The Order: 1886.

As revealed by the founder of Ready At Dawn studio, Andrea Pessino, in an interview for the MinnMax channel, the developer hoped to release the sequel of the action game. The team had such faith in the potential of this universe that Pessino is certain it would make an "incredible sequel" (via GameSpot).

However, Sony didn't share the studio's enthusiasm, as this company owned the rights to The Order brand. Nevertheless, Pessino is not at all upset about this.

The developer pointed to the problematic development of The Order 1886. The publisher's deadline forced the removal of content from the game. That's why the title had a huge number of non-interactive cutscenes - these, in the rush imposed on the developers, replaced the playable parts. According to Pessino, the game needed at least another year - time that Sony didn't give them.

The result of this was low scores for The Order: 1886 (63/100 according to Metacritic) - even lower than the studio's forecasts (aiming for 70/100), which effectively buried the chance for a sequel. Even if Sony agreed to proceed, Pessino and his team would be given a limited budget, with no opportunity to negotiate improved and fully achieve their vision.
