After many years of requests, a pause gameplay option will be added to Path of Exile. It will protect players from death caused by a poor internet connection.

A few days ago, Grinding Gear Games officially announced a new league for Path of Exile, titled Secrets of the Atlas. Although details about its content won't be revealed until June 5th, the devs are not delaying and have already introduced one long-awaited feature.

PoE 1 finally with a pause

In the first video from the series about new Quality of Life improvements, GGG revealed the addition of an option to pause the game at any moment. It will work in three situations:

  1. after pressing the ESC key;
  2. upon entering any full-screen menu, such as the ive skills tree;
  3. when the game detects that the player has lag or is disconnected from the server.

The pause will not be available in all locations in the game. Some, such as arenas with pinnacle bosses, will take into the "pause debuff." This is a understandable solution, introduced to prevent players from abusing the new option.

The presented function was met with a very positive reception from the community. It's not surprising, as they have been asking for it for many years. Furthermore, from the very beginning it is available in Path of Exile 2, which has gained it new fans.

As a dad, I think this change is a huge improvement.

Hardcore will finally be playable.

Technology is here!

Interestingly, there's a group of players who aren't completely thrilled about the new feature. We are specifically talking about speedrunners, for whom pausing the game in the skill tree is a problem. So far, they have been giving away their points in the run, so by stopping the game, they will lose extra time. However, it's possible that GGG will take that into consideration.

Path of Exile is available for free on PC, XOne, and PS4. Thanks to backward compatibility, PS5 and XSX/S owners can also play.
