Sony has successfully ed the Sunset Overdrivetrademark, leading to speculation about a possible refresh for PlayStation 5. The game originally launched exclusively on Xbox One (years later it also made its way to PC), so for many this would be no small event.
The matter was first reported by Nibel, a Twitter who noted the application filed and accepted with the United States Intellectual Property Office (USPTO). The registration alone doesn't mean anything, although we can't rule out the possibility that Sony and Insomniac Games may want to refresh the game in the future. The return of the director of Sunset Overdrive, Drew Murray, to the American company after many years spent at The Coalition may give some hope, though.
The game was released on Xbox One in 2014, and despite a fairly warm reception by reviewers and players, it was not a spectacular success. It was the second title that Insomniac Games released without Sony, after Fuse. In 2018, the title also came to PC.
Despite the fact that the publishing rights to Sunset Overdrive are owned by Microsoft, the IP remained in the hands of the studio, which was $ 229 million in 2019.
