Last year, Microids announced that a new Smurfs game is being created. At the time it was only revealed that the team at OSome Studio is working on the project and that it will be an action adventure game. Now, the publisher finally shared some details.
The game has been given the title The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf and is heading for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The release will take place at the end of this year. It's supposed to be a 3D platformer, though we don't know if its 3D will be limited to graphics only or if it will extend to gameplay as well.
Unfortunately, this is the end of the details provided by the publisher. Microids informed, however, that four more games with Smurfs are in production and each of them belongs to a different genre. All titles using this license are to be released in the next five years, so most likely we will get one production a year. It was not revealed who is working on the remaining projects.
As you can see, Microids is investing heavily in the Smurfs. The company praises the brand as reaching out to multiple generations, and the different genres of planned games are supposed to make every player find something for themselves in the publisher's offer.
Microids has obtained a license from IMPS, the company that owns the rights to the Smurfs. This Belgian company is planning a premiere of a new animated series from this brand this year, which should benefit The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf in of marketing.
