This new co-op horror game went from unknown to 50K+ players overnight

REPO is pushing the co-op silly horror genre to a new level. Proximity chat, monster mayhem, and a familiar yet fresh formula – it’s everything we wished for.

No surprise here – co-op games have always been one of the most popular genres. You’ve got multiplayer shooters like Monster Hunter Wilds over the weekend, another game was busy taking over Steam.

Why everyone’s talking about R.E.P.O.

up to six players, where physics-based chaos meets terrifying encounters. Under the command of a cryptic AI, we and our team must retrieve and extract valuable objects from eerie, abandoned sites, handling everything from fragile antiques to massive furniture.

With proximity voice chat, unpredictable monsters, and teamwork-driven gameplay, every mission could be a tense, heart-pounding experience.

Confused by the screenshot? Yeah, that’s R.E.P.O. in a nutshell. It’s often compared to Lethal Company, a similar game from 2023, but it brings plenty of its own ideas to the table.

The game launched on February 26th in Early Access, started gaining some traction, and then completely blew up over the weekend, hitting over 50,000 concurrent players. Now, it’s rocking a 97% positive rating. Players love the solid level design, the variety of monsters that keep things fresh and unpredictable, and just the overall fun, chaotic experience.

Some fans aren’t too thrilled about the emoji banner (but hey, that’s an artistic choice) and the lack of public matchmaking.

We didn’t have to wait long for the dev team at Semiwork to respond to this request. In their recent video, they promised an official matchmaking lobby as soon as possible and have already implemented a temporary fix. For now, we can only play with our Steam friends to prevent random players from ing private lobbies.

This isn’t the dev’s first game, they also dropped Voidigo in 2023, a roguelike with a similarly goofy vibe. It wasn’t a massive hit like R.E.P.O., but it still earned mostly positive reviews.

Been with gamepressure.androidapks.biz since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or iring my collection of retro consoles.
