CipSoft, known for The Settlers Online, a browser game that is a spin-off of the popular economic strategy series.

Not only the game was purchased. The company also took over the entire development team, which until now at Blue Byte studio was responsible for The Settlers Online. The team will continue to work on the development of the game in a specially created new division of CipSoft, located in the German city of Düsseldorf.

Commenting on this purchase, CipSoft posted the following statement:

The Settlers Online, with its rich tradition and ionate community, is a perfect match for CipSoft. (...) We see tremendous potential in The Settlers Online and are committed to investing in the game's future.

The Settlers Online is a game with a rich history and a community that has stood by it for many years. It is shaped by players who care deeply and have contributed a lot of time and effort to it. This spirit resonates with us and is similar to the ion and dedication you, Tibians, have shown over the years. We are very grateful for that. Being able to take care of two incredibly loyal communities is something we do not take for granted.

Such a turn of events will undoubtedly be very good for The Settlers Online. Ubisoft, the company that has owned the game so far, is currently undergoing a major reorganization. The most valuable brands, among which there are no Settlers, will be transferred to a new company. The other series, such as The Settlers, will stay under the old publisher's structure, raising concerns that they might not be prioritized anymore.

It's hard to imagine that Ubisoft would devote much attention to a fifteen-year-old browser game in such a case. Meanwhile, CipSoft will be able to focus on the development of this title.
