Victoria 3 is the newest game on this list. But that's not all. It's also the most extensive, and therefore the most complex title in the ranking. It couldn't be any other way; after all, it's a game by Paradox Interactive.
This time we're not dealing with a small company or the expansion of a single city (at least initially). In Victoria 3, things are much more from the get-go complex, as we take the lead of one of the several dozen available countries and guide it towards greatness. And all of this happened around the time of Queen Victoria's reign, so let's say around 1836.
During the gameplay, we take care of many aspects, but the most important is the economy - we have to manage the available budget wisely. The economic layer is greatly expanded, which allows us to manage many issues related to finances. Income can be increased by producing goods, for example, but first you need to find qualified workers. It's also important to maintain diplomatic relations with neighbors. We will also have the opportunity to decide on social and political shape of our country. The vast array of possibilities can be overwhelming at first, especially since gameplay takes place in real time. Fortunately, the creators added an active pause allowing to calmly think things over and make decisions, as well as plan the next steps in the development of the chosen nation.
As befits a Paradox game, the graphics are minimalist. We'll be mainly looking at a world map and interface elements, so readability is more important than visual bells and whistles.
