Age of Wonders III: Eternal Lords for PC is the second large expansion to the fifth installment of the popular series of turn-based strategy games developed by Triumph Studio (the first expansion was Golden Realms). Once again the player will visit the fantasy realm of Evermore in which various races are fighting for domination.
Plot
During the singleplayer campaign the player assumes the role of Avik, a successor to the throne of the snowy kingdom of Frostlings. Avik released the forbidden powers of necromancy and he intends to reclaim his realm. As the story progresses, the protagonist will have to choose either the legacy of his race or unleashing the full potential of his newly acquired abilities.
Mechanics
Eternal Lords for PC introduces many changes to AoW III’s gameplay mechanics, including the titular Eternal Lords; necromancers that are the seventh leader specialization. The Eternal Lords can create undead units and transform captured cities into necropolis filled with living dead. In addition to that, the leaders can become one of three Champions and gain access to powers of Good, Evil or Neutrality (including angels that are units of highest level). There are two new races as well: shape-shifting Tigrans and Frostlings who specialize in offensive and sailing.
Other changes include a player’s kingdom system from various races (which allows unlocking unique racial perks and obtaining victory by gaining maximum from all races), as well as Cosmic Events – random events, such as an invasion of a troll army or shooting stars, which increase the luck of all units on the map. There are also new items and locations on the map and stand-alone scenarios.
Game modes
The expansion also introduces a new multiplayer mode – play by e-mail. In this mode the participants are sending their save to the servers of Triumph studio and moves can be performed after unlimited amount of time.
