Age of Wonders III for PC is the fourth installment of a popular turn-based strategy game series by the Dutch studio, Triumph. The production process lasted for over three years. The developers were financially ed by one of the biggest fans of the series – Markus Persson, the creator of Minecraft.

Story

Age of Wonders III yet again takes the players to a fantasy world where different races and groups fight for dominance. The main campaign allows the players to pick a side of one of the two warring factions – the Empire of the Community, or the Court of the High Elves, created after the unification of dark and forest elves. Several popular characters from the series play an important role in the story, including Merlin.

Strategy

The second official expansion to the turn-based strategy game Age of Wonders III developed by Triumph Software in 2014. In the expansion the players can once again visit the fantasy realm of Evermore in which various races are fighting for domination. During the completely new story campaign the player assumes the role of Avik – the successor of the kingdom of Frostlings. He wants to reclaim his realm by using the forbidden powers of necromancy. During the game the protagonist will have to choose between the legacy of his race and using the potential of his newly obtained powers. The expansion introduces the titular Eternal Lords (Necromancers) with their unique abilities and two new races (Tigrans and Frostlings). There are also new locations, items and scenarios. As for the mechanics, the game introduces special random events and a system which enables the player’s kingdom to rate it has among various races. Previously unavailable play-by-mail multiplayer mode was introduced as well.

The first large expansion to Age of Wonders III, a game that was released in 2014, almost eleven years after the debut of the last entry in the series. The expansion was developed by the original creators of the series – Triumph Software, known also for the Overlord series. Golden Realms introduces a completely new playable race of Halflings with their unique mechanics and units. The developers created a new minicampaign in which the player can help his new subjects in rebuilding their empire and facing the ancient evil. Two single missions that can be played in single-player and multiplayer modes were added as well. In addition to new locations, unit types and unique artifacts, the expansion introduces some changes to gameplay mechanics. Among them there is the mythical city upgrade, new defensive buildings for each race, new victory conditions and additional way to fight other rulers – the imperial tasks.
