Apocalipsis is an adventure game developed by an independent Warsaw studio of Punch Pack Games. It takes inspiration from such titles as Samorost and has been released by the Klabert company.

Plot

Apocalipsis follows Harry, a teenager who lost his lover. To get her back, he sets on a journey through the hostile land filled with creatures from medieval codes and works of art created by Albrecht Dürer and Hans Holbein, as well as from the Book of Revelation (also known as the Apocalypse of John). The story is nonlinear and it can turn out in a few ways depending on the players’ actions.

Game mechanics

Apocalipsis uses side perspective and is based on classic point-and-click adventure games’ schemes, focusing on exploring further locations (with the game’s world consisting of tens of locations) and solving logical and environmental puzzles. Those can take form of object manipulation riddles, looking for certain items or helping neutral characters.

Technical aspects

Of all Apocalipsis’ features, its visual style makes it stand out the most from other games, contributing to the game’s unsettling atmosphere. Another part of it comes from the soundtrack, part of which has been made by Behemoth music band. What’s more, the leader of the group, Adam “Nergal” Darski, acts as the narrator in both Polish and English versions of the game.
